The Public Domain Manifesto

Posted on

La Quadrature du Net is among the signatories of the Public domain Manifesto. This text was drafted within the COMMUNIA European Network for the public domain funded by the European Commission.

The manifesto promotes the importance of the Public Domain in the widest sense: entities that cannot be the object of property-like titles or works that are no longer covered by restrictive rights, but also volountarily shared works and user prerogatives for all works. The manifesto has already been signed by leading international legal scholars, research, education and heritage organizations as well as innovation and Internet players. The Manifesto makes proposals and policy recommendations for the safeguard, the maintenance, the accessibility and re-usability of the Public Domain. It stresses the need for a legal framework that puts the Public Domain at the basis and at the center of knowledge societies.
