Paris, January 17th, 2012 – The Net neutrality debate is coming to a turning point in Europe. As the EU Commission and the European body of telecommunications regulators finalise their study on the Internet access restrictions imposed by Internet service providers, every citizen has an opportunity to report their operator’s bad behaviour. And to it make clear that the EU must adopt a strong regulation to protect Net neutrality.
The Body of European telecoms regulators (BEREC) is holding a questionnaire1http://ec.europa.eu/information_society/policy/ecomm/current-topics/index_en.htm#Net_Neutrality on the Internet access restrictions imposed by telecom operators. Originally intended only for operators, the questionnaire is now open to all stakeholders (NGOs, individual citizens, etc.).
We need to show that Internet access restrictions are common and widespread all over Europe, so as to push the EU to adopt a positive legislation to protect freedom of communication. By answering the Commission and BEREC’s questionnaire, citizens will make it impossible for Mrs. Kroes to ignore any further that there is a huge problem today with operators restricting our freedoms online. The more answers, the more pressure on Mrs. Kroes to propose strong legislative action to preserve Net Neutrality.
